Looking for an alternative to the usual Phuket weekend escape that is away from the hustle and bustle? Khao Lak is the perfect resort getaway: Just an hour drive north of Phuket Airport, Khao Lak offers a peaceful environment perfect for a serene beach holiday.

Devasom Khao Lak ticks all the boxes that you would expect from a luxury resort and more! A stylish boutique resort with gorgeous views and beautifully designed interiors and exteriors will make you feel right at home, while the resort’s friendly staff and delicious food will cater to your every need. Feeling tired? Don’t miss out on the resort’s spa which will leave you relaxed and recharged. Opened recently, in December 2018, this beachfront resort makes for the perfect weekend getaway, leaving you spoilt for choice to create new memories!

The resort offers various room types, the most exclusive ones being the Paradise Seaside Pool Suites and Beachfront Villas. We stayed in one of the Paradise Seaside Pool Suites, which had the most beautiful views of the lagoon, beach and ocean. If you stay on the ground floor, you will also have your private sun loungers along a stretch of sand.

For anyone enjoying long strolls on the beach, you will absolutely love Khao Lak! Away from the crowds, Khao Lak is what feels like endless kilometres of white sand, a lush backdrop of trees and perfect blue waters.

What made Khao Lak beach even more special for us was a very unexpected experience. A couple of kilometres into our afternoon walk, we noticed a small area that was fenced off to protect a turtle nest. For the first time in 5 years, a leatherback turtle had returned to Khao Lak beach in December 2018 to lay her eggs. Being the most endangered turtle species, it was obvious how much effort had gone into protecting this turtle’s nest (CCTV cameras, banners, and even military support)! Little did we know that hours later, we would actually witness the turtles hatch and begin their journey to the open ocean!

Khao Lak is conveniently located for anyone wanting to head to the Similan Islands for a day trip. We had initially planned to book a snorkeling trip but unfortunately did not manage to secure a booking due to our rather spontaneous travel plans. If this is something you are considering, make sure you book in advance, especially if you are interested in a smaller group tour option as these are not available on a daily basis (Mon-Wed-Fri only). For us, this just means we will have to come back to Khao Lak very soon!
